Favourite things of 2014

Here are some of my favourite things from 2014.

Albums

Jane Weaver 'The Silver Globe'
Mogwai 'Rave Tapes'
Mica Levi 'Under the Skin' OST

Other notable mentions; Shellac, Scott Walker and Sunn O))), The Soundcarriers and Fumaca Preta.

Older records that I either found or already had but caned the shit out of; John Wizards self-titled lp, 'Superwolf' by Bonnie Prince Billy and Matt Sweeney and Slint's 'Spiderland'.

Films

'Under the Skin'
'Her'
'Marvellous'

Other good 'uns; 'The Wolf Of Wall Street', 'The Babadook', 'Pride', 'Breadcrumb Trail', 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' and 'Birdman' (although technically I saw that 2015)...

Older films I saw for the first time and loved; 'All That Jazz', 'Romance and Cigarettes', 'High Noon', 'Wake in Fright', 'Robin Redbreast', 'Kwaidan', 'Faust', 'Videodrome', 'We Are Best' and pick of the lot documentary 'Jodorowsky's Dune'.

Books

2014 was meant to be my big reading year.  Didn't pan out.  I read a lot of graphic novels and comics but not many books.  This year will be different with new Kindle to guide me...

'The Abortion: An Historical Romance 1966' by Richard Brautigan
'Far Out isn't Far Enough: Life in the Back of Beyond' by Tomi Hungerer
'The Goldfinch' by Donna Tartt

Others; 'Our Band Could Be Your Life' by Micheal Azerrad, 'The Encyclopedia of Early Earth' by Isabel Greenberg and 'How to Be Happy' by Eleanor Davis.

Image won at Comics with titles like the brilliant 'Rat Queens', 'Saga' and 'Rasputin'.  They even tricked me into liking fantastical wizard shit via 'Tooth and Claw' but we'll se how that pans out once I get over the stunning artwork.

Gigs

Shellac.
Primavera 2014.
Fuck. In. Hell.

One of the best gigs of my life.

Other notable mentions; Mogwai (Primavera), Bonnie Prince Billy and Matt Sweeney (St Johns Church, London) and Goblin (Electric Ballroom, London).

The rest

Contributing an illustration to the Little White Lies book 'What I Love About Movies, doing a poster for 'Rosemary's Baby' for Film 4, Somerset House and Print Club [and Mia Farrow liking it], working with Protein on the ASOS/Lynx charity t shirt project, Puck Collective at Pick Me Up, The London Illustration Fair and the amazing Puck Trumps (even if I do say so myself...), learning to love screenprinting again at Thames Barrier Print, my new shared studio, being able to cycle to my new shared studio, Primavera 2014, Margate over New Year's Eve, Crafty Fox markets and teaching at BRIT Kids plus lots I've probably forgotten.

This year I need to focus on finishing some projects off that have been hanging around for far too fucking long.  And drawing more.  I've just noticed this bears an uncanny resemblance to how I signed off last years round up.  EEK.
